History of the École

The École de cirque de Québec was founded in 1992 and was incorporated in 1995.

In 2001, the École de cirque obtained the necessary financing to restore its future home, the Saint-Esprit church, and to begin a preparatory study program.

In 2002, the École de cirque de Québec embarked on its major project: the Saint-Esprit church would be restored to a unique site, where future circus artists would be trained and where thousands of young people could be introduced to this means of expression.

The complex was inaugurated on January 21st, 2003, before the ministre déléguée à l’Emploi Mrs. Agnès Maltais and the ministre délégué de la région capitale nationale, Mr. Rosaire Bertrand. Le mayor of Quebec, Mr. Jean-Paul L’Allier, was also present. This relocation brought back life to a deserted church, while keeping its active social vocation. The project received several architectural prizes and is cited as a success of the city’s religious heritage on a regular basis.

Since 2003 the École de cirque de Québec’s recreational activities have been highly developed. More than 18,000 young people try out the initiatory workshop Let’s Go to the Circus! every year and the recreational classes are far from empty!

In 2010 the École de cirque de Québec will celebrate its 15th anniversary! See you at the festivities of the Jours de Cirque!
